Dec 8, 2023

It was an unusually quiet start to the year across our entire industry, with rising interest rates, increased inflation, a looming recession, and economic uncertainty across the board.

We usually don’t have the luxury of time, but this lull allowed us to work on case studies and social content, back-up our completed projects, and work on a fun internal project together, our Motion Corpse, which we’ll tell you about in more detail further down.

Fortunately work picked up relatively quickly, and before long we were on our way to a cracking year ahead.

Studio warming

We kicked off the new year with a positive event for our team and loved ones. We held a studio warming party to christen our new office, where we welcomed our nearest and dearest to NSS HQ. It was a great opportunity to connect and celebrate with the parents, partners and friends of our team members. We met the people we hear about every day, and in turn they got to learn a little more about what we get up to at Never Sit Still.

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

In the spirit of reconciliation and acknowledging the rightful owners of the land on which we live and work, we prioritised our Reconciliation Action Plan this year. Working with Reconciliation Australia, our RAP provides the framework for meaningful action to advance reconciliation. Our Reflect RAP is a positive step toward our ongoing commitment for the empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Restructure

Following the studio's rapid growth over the last couple of years, our creative leadership team was restructured, both from a business perspective, but equally from a people perspective in regards to culture and talent. Zoe Crocker is our Creative Director. Ben Walker and Supriya Bhonsle are Creative Leads. Bruno Borio is our 3D Lead, and Melany Webster was elevated to a Senior role.

adidas

In the first quarter, EssenceMediacom awarded us a huge project with adidas for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Our role involved creating oversized building wraps of iconic Australian sporting heroes, Mary Fowler and Caitlin Foord. The breakthrough activation in Sydney’s CBD dominated the city scape, shining a light on women’s football.

We also created a suite of 3D billboards to be displayed in major cities across Australia and New Zealand.

Our clients

We were fortunate to solidify relationships with some new clients this year, including SiriusXM Media, Bugatti, Eko Health, Paxos, Lion, and Composer.

We continued nurturing our existing relationships with direct clients including Compound, Canva, Mirror Mirror, Art Gallery of NSW, and Australian Museum.

And we strengthened our new and existing relationships with agencies in Australia and abroad, including JKR, Interbrand Cologne, Turner Duckworth, Moniker, Mucho, EssenceMediacom, Someone, For The People, Twist, Weave, FutureBrand, and Moffitt Moffitt.

Motion Corpse

Inspired by the move to our new studio, we made our very own motion corpse to celebrate the momentous occasion. Each team member was challenged to design and animate an aspect of studio life that resonates with them, using the Never Sit Still brand colours. The final animation is created by stitching together these independently crafted segments, to create a seamless animation that flows from start to finish.

Gruen

Another exciting opportunity was an invitation to The Pitch segment on Gruen, a satirical Australian TV show about advertising where two agencies compete to sell the unsellable.

The Pitch is one of the show's most popular segments, and we were tasked with convincing Australians to move underground.

With two very different points of view on the table, we were proud to draw with the competing agency. Our spot aired in Series 15, Episode 7, and can be viewed for free on ABC iview.

TheNode

One of our favourite events on the creative calendar is TheNode, Australia's dedicated motion conference. Toward the end of the year, our team made the annual pilgrimage south for two jam packed days of inspiration and insight from a variety of talks and workshops.

It was fantastic to have our very own Supriya Bhonsle feature as one of the keynote speakers, and we’re all super proud of her stand-out talk.

AGDA Awards

This year we were fortunate to have 13 of our 14 entries listed as finalists in the AGDA Awards. The ceremony was held on the Gold Coast in December, and we’re thrilled to have taken home a Judges Choice and 6 Merits.

Happy holidays

NSS turned 7 this year. It’s been an incredible journey so far and we’re not going to slow down in 2024. We’re excited to meet new clients, strengthen our existing relationships, and continue doing our best work in the new year. Happy holidays from the team at Never Sit Still!
